Feminism, Not Just About Women's Rights
When I was in middle school, I became a voracious reader. I read any book I could get my hands on and naturally, I picked up a book on women’s rights for teens. I read that women only make 77 cents for every dollar earned by a man. I was shocked to read this, since I never thought that women could actually be treated as sub-standard, because of their sex.
That really got me thinking and it took a few years, but I eventually understood that the only way to change these social problems was to organize direct action and protest against them. I saw how feminism was not just about women’s rights, but about ending oppression for all marginalized groups. This is really what made me realize that feminism was what I, and this world, needed.
