Why I Cook Only for Myself

Maybe we lack the needed perspective, maybe we lack the confidence, maybe we’re just a bit lazy or maybe it’s all of the above. The main problem here is that we choose to forget just how empowering and invigorating constant self-improvement is. There is nothing better than investing time and energy into yourself, the result always come back tenfold. The same principles apply to our cooking skills and habits.
We have somehow convinced ourselves that cooking for one is tedious and just not as fulfilling as it is when you’re cooking for a family or a partner. True, it’s a very unique feeling putting a scrumptious meal in front of your loved ones, but why shouldn’t you show the same respect for yourself? This is an article for all those times when you excused yourself from cooking for one and hopefully, it will inspire you never to do so again. So, why should you cook only for yourself?
You Will Get Better at It
[dropcap background="no" color="#333333"]O[/dropcap]ne of the go-to cooking excuses of all those prosperous individuals that live alone is that they don’t know how to fry an egg, so why bother? Well, for starters, you want to take best care of yourself, don’t you? This means that you shouldn’t constantly rely on takeaway and eating out, but commit some time to learning a new skill. Cooking is art, friends, and even if you’re not overly talented, everyone can and should learn the basics.
You live in the age of internet, which means every recipe and cooking technique is at your fingertips, all you have to do is look it up. If you already know how to make some dishes, why not challenge yourself further? Cooking for yourself is one of the ultimate acts of independence, even though it doesn’t seem like it, it is truly empowering. You want to work on getting better every day, so don’t shy away from your kitchen.[divider type="dashed" spacing="5"]

When there are days that you can afford some high-end products or some things you truly love to eat, get them and then get cooking. Preparing your favorite meal after you’ve had a very bad day can be a game changer for your mood and your stress levels. Cooking calms you down as it makes your hands and your thoughts preoccupied, so you can’t overthink about what you said or didn’t say. Besides, making delicious food is a reason enough to celebrate, whether it’s a raise or the fact you managed not to thump someone on the head today.[divider type="dashed" spacing="5"]
Make It Healthier

Whether it’s too much salted caramel ice cream, one too many pizza slices or a gooey cheeseburger – there are always enticements that are very hard to bypass. Spending more time in the kitchen allows you to experiment with healthier versions of sinful recipes you so adore. You know very well that if you go to the fast food joint, you will get greasy processed food, and you don’t want to know where that came from. But, if you decide to eat healthier and cook for yourself, you will know what exactly goes into your meals and how it was all prepared. If you’re trying to be fitter and stronger, then taking care of your nutrition is an important part of that quest and the best way to do so is to cook all the meals with your own two hands.[divider type="dashed" spacing="5"]
It’s Definitely More Affordable
[dropcap background="no" color="#333333"]I[/dropcap]f nothing else convinced you that you should give cooking for one a try, then the chance to save a lot of money will. Constantly eating in restaurants and ordering takeout is pricey and you end up spending much more money on food that you have to. Cooking for yourself allows you to buy fresh produce that are organic and in season, it gives you an opportunity to experiment with different ingredients, spices and cuisines and all that from your kitchen. Restocking your fridge every weekend with healthy products and snacks sets you up for success and helps you steer clear from all the empty calories and fatty snacks that lead to no good. Once you start cooking at home more, pay close attention to your bank account, you will see that money is melting away much slower when you’re not dining out every other evening.
