5 Natural Tips to Tame that B of a Hangover

HealthKatie Corcoran,Brooklyn, NY

So you decided to go out a bit too late last night with girlfriends and have yourself in that morning after oh-shit-I-have-too-much-to-do-today-to-feel-like-this slump. It was that one last glass of wine {or was it the tequila?} that put you over the edge and is making you feel completely icky, and you have a mid-morning coffee meeting where your intellect is expected to be on point.

What's a girl to do in a situation like this? Next time you choose to drink like a champ, follow these tips to avoid the post-party regret so you can get your day hustle on while still finding the time to enjoy the evening.

1. H to the 2 to the O to the

I know I know, you're going to hate me, but the numero uno way to tame that headache, brian fog, and slump of nausea is to chug on down some good old fashion water. I try to drink at least two big glasses of water before bed and also before heading out the door in the morning. Keeping hydrated will help dilute that system and assist with flushing toxins from your festive evening before.

2. The B Vitamins

This is my number one before bed trick and I have sworn by this since college. Take your B Vitamins. I recommend a B Complex that includes B1 (thiamine), B2 (riboflavin), Folic Acid, B6 and B12, to replenish the loss of vitamins during a drinking session. I personally take a Multi Vitamin and Mineral combo pack to ensure all the essentials are back in action before waking up in the morning.

3. Keep it clear

This is a classic chick move, but keep the booze clear and as clean as possible. That means, refrain from those sugary drinks to completely rock your glycemic load and totally deplete you of your energy the next day. There's nothing that sucks the life out of you more, prohibits you from getting a restful sleep and contributes to that killer headache than one too many margaritas. Stick to the vodka, gin, and rum with soda and a garnish.

4. Get a Banana & Acai smoothie stat!

Healthy eats are essential after a party-filled evening, so stick to a smoothie with lots of antioxidant-rich foods, healthy fats and hangover-busing ingredients. Try this Acai smoothie bowl here.

5. Tackle the hair of the dog with a 'Booch

If you haven't tried Kombucha before, I suggest you give it a whirl before you try one on for size during a hangover, but I love this stuff and drink multiple bottles per week. It's on the pricier end of the drink game -- nearly $4 -- but provides excellent replenishment after a dehydrating evening. In addition, the healthy probiotic bacteria present in this fermented drink helps clean the insides of toxins... and the small, natural alcohol percentage takes a holistic approach to the hair of the dog theory.

Best of luck, keep on rocking it and follow these tips to a speedy recovery.
