Bettys On Your Block

tumblr_mrvvx3KUqr1sa7h11o1_500 Who You Admire Now

Erin- Sandra Kim, the founder and executive director of Everyday Feminism. Her poise, know-how and spirit are so inspiring and her mission to transform people’s lives through feminism is exquisite. She’s so smart and driven, she’s really someone to watch.

Emily- I feel a little foolish picking a celebrity as the woman who is inspiring me, but right now it’s Mindy Kaling. I read her book “Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? (And Other Concerns)” a few months ago and something about her and her career has made me consider taking up writing more seriously. As I get older, I am finding it more and more daunting to start a new career because I feel like it’s too late to excel at something new. For a while now, I’ve had a sneaking suspicion that I could be a writer, but I’ve been lacking the motivation to do something about it. Reading about Mindy’s career path, starting from small beginnings and school plays to seeing her now, writing and starring in her own television show, was just the push that I needed. Not only is she a great writer, she’s hilarious, down to earth, quite the fashionista, and a great role model for women.

Alex- Jennifer Lawrence because she always seems to be saying something ridiculous.

What Makes You a Bad Ass Bitch

Erin- What makes me a bad ass bitch: I never give up! I started blogging and really wanted to take my work to the next level, so I started applying to various internships in the feminist world. I got rejections for months, until someone gave me a chance to prove my worth- and I have!

Emily- I’ve got to say, I’ve never considered myself a “badass bitch” per se, but recently I’ve undertaken a project that requires honesty and bravery (two qualities a badass bitch must possess) so I guess that qualifies me. Following a period of intense introspection, I have decided to revamp my life. Up until now, I have kind of let my life be decided for me…not by any specific person, but more like… I’ve let things fall as they may instead of seeking out opportunities for myself. When that happens, you look around one day and nothing looks like it fits. “I work where?” “I do what?” I am vowing, to myself, to hop in the driver’s seat of my own destiny and start to create the life I want and make myself into a woman I can be proud of. And that’s what is MAKING me a badass bitch.

Alex- I listen to gangster rap.
